Sun June 8, 2008

Victoria Stars brought their record to 10-1 with weekend victories over the visiting Kelowna United and North Shore Eagles.

Sunday versus North Shore, the Victoria side peppered keeper Sam Duncan with shots. Kendra Flock converted a Jackie Snell cross at 10’. Fifteen minutes later, Flock beat her mark along the endline and passed to Liz Hansen for an easy tap in. Stars keeper Corey Gros stepped up at 35’, North Shore forward Danni Tabo broke in alone, but Gros charged out to meet her and blocked the shot. Kendra Flock put the game out of reach, converting an Amy Thorogood pass at 38’ and then finishing a play started by Jocelyn Smith. The score at the half was 4-0.

Flock continued her personal onslaught at 55’ on a pass from Janelle Smith. Amy Thorogood closed out the Stars scoring at 87’, when she scored off a setup from Sarah Cameron. Final score 6-0.

No one was injured in this match but if they had been then sports law firm could have been used to claim compensation.

“It was an interesting weekend,”said Stars GM George Stewart, “we had no idea what to expect from Kelowna. They played well and challenged us all over the field. We had better chances and eventually capitalized, but our keeper came up big when we needed her. We had played North Shore earlier in the year and won 2-1 at their park. On Sunday we controlled the game. Kendra was exceptional. The combination of her and Liz up front makes it very difficult on our opponents”
